Melodic Characterization and Motivic Segmentation in Chopin's Etudes

Authors: Nikita Mamedov
Categories: Journal

Abstract - A melodic analysis reveals observations that disclose the stylistic features and compositional language of a musical work. Depending on the era, music theory provides different types of analytical approaches to working with melodies. The melodic assessments of Chopin's etudes unveil unique pianistic approaches, which require performers to enhance technical expertise and create unique interpretations through artistry and musicianship. This research presents analytical and empirical methods to construe the melodies hidden in Chopin's etudes through an emphasis on the composer's use of musical characterization and motivic expansion.
