Improving Music Education Teaching: An Experience from Guangdong University of Education

Abstract - Under the framework of China's Outstanding Teacher Training Programme, Guangdong University of Education has actively explored innovative models for training primary school music teachers. Drawing on empirical research, literature review, and qualitative interviews, this study identifies key characteristics and challenges among participating teachers, including the effective use of teaching resources, educational technology, and interdisciplinary design. To address these issues, the university has incorporated modern educational technology and cross-disciplinary pedagogical design into its training model, while integrating traditional Lingnan music culture to strengthen professional competence and creative capacity. The first pilot phase (2019-2023), led by Professor Gao Ming, achieved notable progress in classroom methodologies, curriculum development, and the creation of practical teaching platforms. The ongoing phase (2023-2025), directed by Professor Zhao Xin, involves 35 trainee teachers and a multidisciplinary faculty team, embodying collaborative innovation. Findings demonstrate that the programme effectively mitigates resource limitations and skill gaps in primary music education, enhancing teaching quality, preserving cultural heritage, and cultivating innovative educators. The experience provides a replicable framework for excellence-oriented teacher training initiatives nationwide.
