Preservation Strategies for Fixed Media Electroacoustic Music

Abstract - The advent of new technologies for creating electroacoustic music has led to preservation challenges due to inevitable technological obsolescence. This article outlines essential strategies for preserving fixed media electroacoustic music, highlighting various methods developed over recent decades to ensure the performability of these musical works in the future. Prior to discussing preservation strategies, the article defines fixed media electroacoustic music and preservation. Also, the various components constituting fixed media electroacoustic music are described to address the preservation needs of each component independently. Finally, the article references several projects developed to preserve fixed media electroacoustic music, and effective preservation efforts in this field.
