Optimal 4WC Jazz Solutions in Major Context: how to effectively deal with Extended Chromatic Lines
Authors: Carmine Cataldo
Categories: Journal
Abstract - In this article, the concept of 4-Way Close Jazz Harmonization in Major Context is further explored, identifying a series of Optimal Solutions for the management of even decidedly extended Chromatic Lines. A Solution is considered optimal if it is adaptable to various Performance Speeds, preserving its validity even in the case of a Melodic Paraphrase with an exquisitely metric nature. It should allow for possible Doubling without generating Double Pseudo-Clusters, resort to Opposite Motion (dividing the voices according to the ensemble) when necessary, and demonstrate Functional Coherence. Despite Chromatic Parallelisms and Auxiliary Chords, the Harmonic Flow must remain identifiable as a series of Authentic Cadences. All the Voicings are carefully signed, in such a way as to make explicit their role within the harmonization
